Canihan Family Winery is a boutique, family-run vineyard and winery in California, in the Sonoma Coast AVA located within a few miles of downtown Sonoma


Our winemaking philosophy is to produce the highest quality wines with the least intervention possible. We are zealous about growing without irrigation, commercial herbicides, or fertilizers and we select only the best grapes from our Estate, Certified Organic vineyard. We hand-harvest in the cool of the night, ferment using native yeasts, and age the wine in French oak barrels longer than typical, for more complexity. The wines are not fined or filtered.

Our initial plantings were Pinot Noir, honoring our wine-growing Swiss ancestors. We started with a bang when our first commercial vintage, the 2004 Syrah was judged Best Red Wine of Show from over 3400 red wines at the 2007 San Francisco International Wine Competition. We’ve consistently received Double Gold or Gold Medals every year since.

We produce only 1,000-1,300 cases annually under two labels; “Canihan Family” comprising Pinot Noir, and both still and sparkling Chardonnay, and “Exuberance”. The latter is our Syrah label and a reserve Pinot Noir bottling that will only be produced for an extraordinary vintage.
