Sam Caporn MW
Sam has been in the wine trade for over 25 years and has held a number of different positions in that time including Tastings Co-ordinator for Wine Magazine and a Buyer for Direct Wines. She became a Master of Wine in 2011, winning the prestigious Madame Bollinger Medal for Outstanding Achievement in the Practical Papers. A couple of weeks later she welcomed her son and started her own business – a consultancy which is called The Mistress of Wine. She currently works for Aldi, a buying consortium/group, a corporate events company, is one of six Co-Chairs at the International Wine Challenge, is head/lead wine judge at Which? Magazine. Her first wine book – The Wine Flavour Guide – was recently shortlisted for the F&M Debut Drink Book 2025.
Oz Clarke
One of the world’s leading wine experts, Oz Clarke’s formidable reputation is based on his extensive wine knowledge and accessible, no-nonsense approach. His passion for the subject dates from his student days at Oxford University, where he won tasting competitions at a precociously early age. His tasting skills have won him an international reputation and he is acknowledged as having one of the finest palates of anyone writing about wine today. He brings a refreshingly unorthodox wit and directness to the subject and has won all the major wine writing awards both in the UK and the USA.
Alice Lascelles
Alice Lascelles is a contributing editor on the Financial Times and writes the drinks column for the FT’s HTSI magazine. Her drinks writing has also appeared in The Times, The Economist, Wired, Monocle, Vice and many specialist and trade titles including the Oxford Companion to Spirits & Cocktails, and she can often be found talking about wine, spirits and bar culture on BBC Radio 4 on the TV. She is the author of three books including the best-selling The Martini: The Ultimate Guide to a Cocktail Icon which was named 2024 BBC Food Programme Drinks Book of the Year. She has also been made a Keeper of the Quaich and a Chevalier of the Ordre des Coteaux de Champagne in recognition of her work. She likes her Martini 5:1 with an olive and a twist.
Ian Wisniewski
Ian Wisniewski is a freelance drinks writer focusing on spirits, particularly Scotch whisky. He contributes to various publications including Whisky Magazine France, and is the author of twelve books, the latest being ’A Passion For Whisky: How the tiny Scottish island of Islay creates malts that captivate the world,’ published in October 2023. He regularly visits distilleries in Scotland to learn more and is a Master of the Quaich.
