Molly Malone Irish Whiskey at #LWF19
First bottling is scheduled end of this coming July 2019, so LWF is a preview ahead of the brand launch.
To any Irish affiliated person, we wouldn't have to explain who Molly Malone was. She is the iconic character of Ireland and is the centre-piece to any Irish celebration. Sung by supporters of the Irish rugby team, Molly Malone is the official anthem of Leinster rugby and the unofficial anthem of Dublin. High profile actors and pop stars with an affiliation to the Irish celebrate Molly. Non-partitional, non-divisional. Molly is the DNA of being Irish. She is Ireland itself. During Dublin's Millennium celebrations 1988, the Millennium Commission declared June 13th as National Molly Malone Day - that is like St. Patrick's Day, just for your own brand. Back in 2011, Google reported more than a million hits on the Molly Malone name. If you review our website (www.mollymalone.irish) and scroll to the bottom, you'll see Youtube clips showing celebrities from the music industry, Hollywood and a clip from the Rugby World Cup semi-final in 2015 (France-v-Ireland) all singing Molly Malone. Promotional opportunities are vast.
The opening line of the iconic song Cockles and Mussels: "In Dublin's fair city where the girls are so pretty, I first set my eyes on sweet Molly Malone" gave us great focus for what we wanted with the character of the whisky. Remaining in theme to the words of the song, we set out to create a beautiful light and sweet whiskey - a reflection of traditional Irish triple distillation. With small batch production, we hand selected American white oak casks (Quercus Alba) holding premium Irish malts. The casks, being second fill bourbon casks, were ideal as they remained neutral to the malts within (coconut and vanilla tannins of new wood were previously absorbed by the bourbon).
The Molly Malone Irish Whiskey Company - background
The company was recently set-up as the founder, Richard Lombard-Chibnall diversified into Irish Whiskey from his family business - Lombard Scotch Whisky (www.lombardscotchwhisky.com) . Originally whisky merchants, the family had a 300 year history in the wine and spirit business, including 60 years in the Whisky industry. Today the company holds the jewels of single malt stocks and an award winning portfolio. Lombard matures and bottles from its own whiskies.
Working within the family business for 30 years, provided Richard the experience, confidence and nose to create the Molly Malone Irish Whiskey.
