Discover the premium side of prosecco at London Wine Fair

s

Discover the premium side of prosecco at London Wine Fair, with two masterclasses hosted by Sarah Abbott MW. Each session features 8 wines from “Rive”, a relatively recent category that highlights the expression of these 43 single vineyards in the most historic and prized locations of Conegliano Valdobbiadene. The optimal exposure and terroir of Rive make these vineyards ideal for the production of long-charmat and Brut styles.

Rive vineyards are a long tradition in Conegliano Valdobbiadene, the original heart of prosecco. The name is a dialect term denoting the steepest and most historic slopes of the denomination. The unique agricultural patchwork and grass terraces of Rive are the basis of the UNESCO heritage recognition for Conegliano Valdobbiadene, uniquely among prosecco denominations.

Rive become official in 2009, after many years of quality-driven producers making these single-vineyard wines. By law, Rive must be made with lower yields, and harvested by hand. While there is no stipulation for the wine style, in practice many Rive are made as Brut and Extra Brut.

Conegliano Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore comprises less than 10% of the prosecco market in the UK, but sales are growing.

These tastings feature award-winning producers and are an opportunity to discover a the little-seen elite-quality side of this important category.
