New Initiatives for LIWF
2012
Discovery Tasting at LIWF
The LIWF is delighted to
welcome the International Wine Challenge Discovery Tasting to this
year's Fair. The Discovery Tasting provides buyers with the
opportunity to taste, at their leisure, without interruption, any
style of wine from anywhere in the world that is looking for an
importer and has entered the IWC.
Hundreds of wines will be available and are grouped by
country/style and split into three sections depending on where they
are seeking buyers from; On Trade, High Street & Supermarkets
and Independent Off Trade. The Discovery Tasting is guaranteed to
be a major draw for these extremely key buying sectors attending
the LIWF.

The UK Sommelier of the Year
We are delighted to announce that The UK Sommelier
of the Year competition will be running at the show this year on
Wednesday 23rd May. The competition has been organised and run by
The Academy of Food and Wine Service since inception in 1980.
The AFWS has been successful in attracting many wine waiters and
sommeliers that wouldn't usually have the confidence to enter such
contests. The competition not only requires the entrants to test
their product knowledge, they must also demonstrate their ability
to serve correctly.
The competition will generate plenty of excitement and flair and
promises to attract over 180 of the top sommeliers from around the
country.
Some of the past winners are listed below:
2011 Yohann Jousselin, Vineyard at Stockcross, Newbury
(pictured)
2010 Christopher Delalonde, Sarment Wines, London
2009 Laura Rhys, Hotel Terravina, Southampton
2008 Gearoid Devaney, Tom Aikens Restaurant, London
2007 Nicolas Clerc, Milestone Hotel, London
2006 Claire Thevenot, Hotel Du Vin, Winchester
2005 Matthew Wilkin, Capital Hotel, London
Small Independents Pavilion
Attracting sommeliers and independent retailers to
Fair has never been more important - they have the buying power
that many producers and importers are keen to tap into.
Now, in the form of a new feature called the Small Independents
Pavilion, specialist producers and importers can display boutique
and niche wines to precisely this audience.
No doubt the feature will also prove popular with buyers from
all sides of the trade, and watch this space for news of an
important new feature aimed at the independent sector as we team up
with a major magazine to launch a new joint promotion!
