A new direction for the London International Wine Fair has been announced for 2014.
The changes are a result of several months lobbying the UK wine industry – including current and past exhibitors – to establish their requirements for a national show. The changes will see the show go back to its roots as the “London Wine Fair”, the national wine event for the world’s leading import market; essentially, Britain’s festival of wine.
With the World Cup in 2014 and the Olympics in 2016 the eyes of the world will be on Brazil. The economy is strong, the wine industry is established and family-based, producers are investing in export. There is UK stock via established agencies and there are producers looking for partners.
Could a better understanding of robotics help the UK wine trade solve its problems? It’s a mind-boggling concept. Automated assistants in wine shops, perhaps, which identify you by your retina and sense your mood by the pheromones you’re emitting? Perhaps a device that allows you to remove plastic stoppers without risking a rupture?
Global wineries looking to sell in the UK market, will again compete for millions of pounds of business, with winners being plucked from obscurity, to land in the spotlight of leading UK buyers, at Winestars World's LIWF 2013 Wine Competition.
The London International Wine Fair will be treating 200 top UK sommeliers as VIPs at next month’s show.
The Union des Grands Crus de Bordeaux, which counts many of the most distinguished Bordeaux châteaux amongst its members, is returning to the London International Wine Fair for the third year with the highly acclaimed 2010 vintage, on Tuesday 21 May.
The LIWF has launched a new initiative for 2013, MyWineFair, which provides tailored programmes, connecting visitors with exhibitors at the LIWF, based around an online database of wines to be exhibited. An evolution of “The List” which was launched in 2008, MyWineFair is an online tool whereby visitors search for wines by various criteria (including producer, variety, price point, country) in advance of the Fair in order to create a usable, personalised list. Improved functionality sees MyWineFair incorporated in the new LIWF app, allowing visitors to search the wine library, see which Masterclasses and Industry Briefings are being held and to fully tailor their visit to the LIWF.
REDUCTION – less flavour, fewer fans...
It’s often hard to put a finger on why a wine loses it’s ‘zing’..... difficult to identify reductive aromas, the tell-tale sign that what’s in the bottle has dulled. But what is ‘reduction? How is it caused? And how can you spot it – at different stages?
